12 Commandments of Getting a Mortgage

  • Thou Shall NOT change jobs, become self employed or quit your job.

  • Thou Shall NOT buy or lease a car, truck or van (or you may be living in it)

  • Thou Shall NOT use credit cards excessively or let your accounts fall behind.

  • Thou Shall NOT spend money you have set aside for closing.

  • Thou Shall NOT omit debts or liabilities from your loan application.

  • Thou Shall NOT forget to pay your bills on time.

  • Thou Shall NOT buy furniture. The Time to buy new furniture and appliances on credit is AFTER you own the home, NOT before.

  • Thou Shall NOT originate any inquiries to your credit report.

  • Thou Shall NOT Close any open credit cards nor open new credit cards-even if you're getting 20% off.

  • Thou shall NOT deposit or transfer large sums of money without FIRST checking with your loan officer.

  • Thou Shall NOT change bank accounts.

  • Thou Shall NOT co-sign a loan for anyone.
